This month, we are extremely proud & honoured to welcome the "female Derrick Carter", DJ HEATHER [blackcherry recordings | ilovedjheather.com | fabric uk - chicago, usa]. DJ Heather grew up in Chicago; a city with a rich underground history and perfectly suited to a kid with a keen interest in music. Her parent’s collection of LPs became the backdrop for her own explorations into music. The prevalence of all-ages clubs in Chicago were a gateway into late 80s dance music and the wealth of local radio shows, playing everything from new wave to rock and disco to hip hop, created a wide base of influences for her future DJing and production. Heather’s undiluted appreciation of music has seen her develop from hip hop DJ playing rare groove, soul and funk into primarily a house DJ. It wasn’t a conscious decision but a natural migration, during years spent working in record shops and developing her skills, that has taken her to countries across the globe and seen her become a resident at fabric last year. Heather has released on California’s Seasons imprint and launches her own Blackcherry Recordings in May. She’s lent her warm voice to many tracks, and has collaborations with Brett Johnson, Slater Hogan, Bobby Valentine, Miles Maeda, DJ Colette and No Assembly Required released over the coming months.

We are also proud to bring you another headlining set from DON TINSLEY [urban jazz naturals | vista | gallery - st. louis, mo]. From October 2000 to the present Don has been working on his Jazzy House project entitled Urban Jazz Naturals. Urban Jazz Naturals is a collective of four musicians that combine sequencing techniques, live horns, digital and analog synthesizers, drum machines and vocals. Drawing from many musical genres encompassing Jazz, Soul and House music among others the Urban Jazz Naturals took the House music community by storm with the debut promo “How Can I?” remixed by veteran Producer and DJ, JT Donaldson. In addition to two residencies in St. Louis Don is busy playing guest appearances at dance clubs throughout the U.S. alongside industry greats such as Lenny Fontana (Ministry of Sound), Mark E. Quark (Spundae), Q-Burns Abstract Message (Eighth Dimension) and Roy Davis jr. (Undaground Therapy) to name just a few. Don has become known for his ability to excel in the production and djing of many styles of music ranging from Deep House to German Techno and everything in between.

Limestone manager and co-founder Matthew Bandy has been experimenting with electronic music for the past 9 years as a DJ, producer and live performer. As a producer and live act Matthew created the moniker of "Deep House Souldiers" with partner and close friend Joel Jackson. Now working on a few solo projects, Matthew doesnąt always write music to be understood on the dance floor but always has a concept in mind. Unfortunately, this month's Audity Central will be really tough for all of us because a VERY integral part of the Audity Central family is leaving after this month- EMMERALD. Emmerald has been starting Audity Central off right for over 2 years with her eclectic style of broken beat, 2-step, and nujazz. We've seen her talent progress from simply crossfading between 2 records to actually mixing her tracks quite superbly. Besides her amazing taste in music, she has always been there to help support the night in any way she could from passing out flyers to working the door to running errands and anything else she was asked to do. I don't really know how things are going to work without her being here, but we'll press on & keep her memory alive. Emmerald has been trying to find another job for a while now, and, we always knew that this fateful day would come, but it was never something we wanted to think would actually happen! She is moving on to another stage in her life down in Atlanta, and we are going to be there to help her celebrate it in style. It is bittersweet parting because we're happy to see our sister move on to greener pastures, but we love her too much to let her go! Be sure you're there to send her off with the rest of Nashville.

Along with support from CHEK (abstractions / emc), SCOTT NELSEN (mindgasm / emc / xdn), and SPOON (jack junkies / emc / rex hill). Date: Friday : MAY 28TH, 2004. Time: 9PM - 3AM. 9.02.03 - TIME HAS RUN OUT ON THE UNDERGROUND ALARM CLOCK - It pains me to tell you this, but unfortunately, it is true. Last week, a major announcement was made by officials at my former radio station that shook up the schedule quite a bit. It was announced, without any explanation as to why, that the station would not allow community members to volunteer to do their radio shows. Needless to say, it threw the staff into an uproar. A meeting was held last Friday to try & explain the decision, and I come to find that it was all enacted in a calculated & malicious effort to get rid of me. I know that may seem paranoid, but I can honestly tell you that it is true.

The reason I no longer am welcome at WRVU is because of Audity Central. Apparently, two individuals have had issues with Audity Central for quite some time but failed to bring it to my attention. Just this past week, I was told that it is a violation of FCC regulation for a DJ to announce events over the air that said DJ has a vested interest in. That may be true, but why was I told by 3 different station managers that I could announce the event, and why was I just being told about this regulation now after all these years? Seems to me that if it was such a huge infraction, someone would have brought it it to my attention right away. I thought I was in compliance with the station's every wishes the entire time, and since no one told me otherwise, what reason would I have to suspect anything different?

Audity Central was started well before I was a member of the station, and it has never been about making money. It has always been about providing WRVU DJ's, listeners, and the Nashville community the opportunity to enjoy electronic music in a fun and safe environment. Many of the artists that are played at Audity Central are found in WRVU's primary rotation. Every event, we allow WRVU DJ's get in for free, and those students who are DJ's that spin electronic music have always been welcome to spin at the event. After a few individuals at the station saw the benefits of being associated with such an event, WRVU asked to be a part of it financially, and it was involved for a few months in 2000. When it became too difficult for WRVU to go through all the hoops to get the money, the still wanted to lend its name to an event that seemed to be in-line with its musical philosophy. The administration has had issues with this event ever since. However, there has never been any explicit communication between the faculty advisors and myself. All I ever recieved were veiled communications that often came as third-hand, garbled directives, as well as threats of legal action. Audity Central has tried our hardest to comply with the changes that Vanderbilt wanted us to make, but they kept making changes to their orders and then gave no feedback for months at a time. If at some point, during training or otherwise, it was brought to my attention that announcing shows I was involved in was illegal, I would have stopped IMMEDIATELY.

At the meeting on Friday, I was accused of "running a cottage business out of a college radio station," which is COMPLETELY FALSE. This "change in policy" was set in motion a few weeks ago with the station manager & the student advisor addressing a board of 6 students & a few faculty members concerning the Audity Central issue. I was never told about this meeting or asked to attend. I didn't even know that Audity Central was even an issue in the first place. And worst of all- I wasn't allowed to defend myself against these heinous charges. (You'd think Vanderbilt would be familiar with due process. I guess those rights aren't afforded to community volunteers.) During that meeting, the board heard the station's version (completely true, I'm sure) of the story, but what about my version? If my future at WRVU was in jeopardy, I should have at least been able to represent myself at this board meeting in an effort to clear my name. My character & repuation have been questioned by people that don't even know me, and now I won't ever have a chance to tell them otherwise.

I would NEVER misuse or blatantly disregard the station's best interest to perpetuate my own endeavours. My outside endeavours will stand on their own with or without promotion on WRVU, and I would NOT intentionally jeopardise the opportunity to do a show at WRVU simply to announce an Audity Central date. The radio station, the people affiliated with it and my radio show are extremely important to me, and I sincerely apologise for any wrong-doing in relation to station policy. It seems that some form of discipline or suspension would be the logical first step to rectifying the situation instead of taking the opportunity to do my show away altogether.

However, I have thought long & hard about this terrible misunderstanding, and I feel that this a sign to move on to bigger & better things. Part of me wants to stay & put up the biggest fight, but I realise that the two individuals that stand in the way of me getting my show back will never listen to reason or try to see things in a different way. Apparently, I have been a thorn in their side for too long, and now I will be made a casualty because of a minor technicality. Karma can really suck sometimes, and I'm sure that it will take care of everything that it needs to in this case. I just felt that everyone of you deserved an explanation, so I hope this is sufficient. I'll be happy to discuss it further, if anything doesn't make sense.

I want to thank everyone that has voiced your concerns to the administration regarding my show. It really means a lot that my show meant so much to you. I also want to thank everyone that has gotten up with me on Tuesday mornings for the last 3 years. I hope I was able to turn you on to some amazing, new music, and I will continue to try & do so in the virtual realm. It has truly been a blessing of the highest order, and I want to thank everyone for their friendship over the years. Just because I'm not on your radio dial anymore doesn't mean that our friendship stops there. Life will go on as before, and I'll be spinning your favourite tunes all over town, so please keep an eye out for me. I will continue to record an hour-long show for my website every week. As I said before, I am off to bigger & much better things, so I hope you'll come along with me. See you on the dancefloor. Love, Dub.

5.26.2003 - SESSION 3 TO BE FEATURED ON WWW.RADIO-MAESTRAL.HR IN CROATIA - Gordan Kusanic is about the unleash the furor (Who am I kidding?) of Session 3 on the unsuspecting country of Croatia. Gordan is the host of MuzikaNaStruju, which is his show that features deep house mixes from all over the world. The mix is set to be broadcast on Friday, June13th from 8pm-11pm GMT. I need to do a little research to find out when it will be broadcast here in Nashville, but it would mean a lot to me if everyone could tune in. 5.14.2003 - MORE MINDUB ON WRVU 91.1 FM THIS SUMMER!

It's summer time at Vanderbilt University, and that means that most students have gone home. Since we try to keep the dead air to a minimum at WRVU, you will now get more Mindub than you probably care to have.

The Underground Alarm Clock will stay the same with its deep, funky, sexy house music on Tuesdays & Thursdays. However, Meanderings will allow me to venture into other genres of music that I can't really play on The Underground Alarm Clock. I plan on featuring more downtempo/lounge/trip-hop/electronic music, as well as few indie bands here & there. It might not be what you are used to hearing on the Clock, but I promise you that all the music will be equally as exceptional, so PLEASE try & tune in!

Here are the new timeslots:

- MONDAYS 6PM-8PM - Meanderings
- TUESDAYS 6AM-8AM - Underground Alarm Clock
- THURSDAYS 6AM-8AM - Underground Alarm Clock w/Spoon

5.13.2003 - SESSION 3 NOW AVAILABLE AT SPUN RECORDS!

If you can't live without the funky house sounds of the Underground Alarm Clock, but you can't be bothered with the process of mail-order, you can now pick up the lastest session at Spun Records, which is located at 207 Louise Ave. directly across from Cafe Coco right behind where T.G.I.Fridays used to be. For more information, call 321-0056. The manager, Tim, is a big fan of the Underground Alarm Clock, so stop in & say hello. They also rent a wide variety of DVDs, buy/sell used CDs, and carry loads of fresh import vinyl for all you DJs out there!

4.01.2003 - SESSION 3 IS FINALLY DONE ... ORDER TODAY!

Everyone's been asking when "Session 3" is going to be done, and I can finally say that it is done RIGHT NOW! It's taken over a year to mix something that I really like, and I think this new Session is the best representation of the Underground Alarm Clock in recent months. It was tough trying to fit 2 hours worth of different styles of house music into a 70 minute mix, but I think it works, and I really hope that you will agree.

To place an order, click on "Media" across the bottom of your screen, and when you get to that page, look under "Music" for more information on how to order your copy today! Here's the tracklisting:
